About the event

Writing a speculative fiction world is a bit like doing reverse anthropology: instead of discovering the artifacts, socio-political structures, familial relationships, traditions, and economic policies, you get to create them yourself! But where do you start? And how do you create a world that feels real and tangible?

In this workshop, we’ll work on creating the kind of backdrop from which you can build a rich, in-depth speculative world. We’ll consider mentor texts, explore how culture and tradition can be embedded into narratives, and write a few short scenes. Bring your curiosity, your observational skills, and your enthusiasm for the project of worldbuilding!

This workshop, hosted by Writespace Houston, is suitable for all writing levels.

Registration is online through Eventbrite.

Early Bird pricing available through March 19.
